 I believe that the experiences of the first few years of life are of significant importance for successful, future learning and readiness in relationships. For some young children, playing or bonding with peers can be quite challenging. Sometimes anxieties, aggression, language barriers or lack of social awareness can inhibit potential successful relations. For other children, a lack of appropriate opportunities for peer interaction is available. As a result, social skills and confidence are compromised in future relationships.

For the past 12 years, I have created and facilitated innovative Social Learning Groups for pre-schoolers, incorporating parent consultation/education, psychosocial assessments and behavioral invention techniques, all aimed at enriching social and emotional development. Every child's individual strengths, needs and potential are strongly supported and encouraged in the best interest of their growth. These unique groups provide a very nurturing, supportive and therapeutic atmosphere for young children to regularly interact with each other and to have opportunities to develop the following:
  • Self Confidence and Positive Self-Esteem with social interactions                                           
  • Understanding of their own Feelings 
  • "Tools" for Self-Regulation of Emotions
  • Ability to Cue into others' messages 
  • Empathy Skills
  • Conflict Resolution Skills
  • Fun and Enjoyment while creating friendships

Groups consist of up to 5 children each week whereby they engage in playing, eating and conversation together. Various activities, games, toys and books are "tools" that are provided so that the children can experience different interactive opportunities which foster social and emotional growth with peers. Each day, specific group activities are offered emphasizing one or more of the following:
  • Feelings Identification
  • Asserting Oneself Effectively
  • Working/Playing Collaboratively
  • Listening to and Respecting Others
  • Problem Solving
  • Being Kind/Helpful
  • Being a Leader/Learning to be directed 

My gentle, therapeutic guidance encourages each child in building confidence for effective self expression and communication with peers, recognition of feelings, taking appropriate social risks and strengthening emotional self-regulation. This approach strongly supports a child who may be experiencing anxiety, frustration, confusion or sadness, and offers understanding, validation, patience and gentle support in their process to work through the difficulty.
